How long have you been in the apple business?
We (Larry and Janice) established the tree fruit farm as is in 1988. We are currently farming with our son-in-law Cassian Ferlatte and son Sam Lutz.
It was a part-time past-time until then. We started planting orchard in 1989 and continued planting while we both worked off the farm and raised our family. In 2014 we bought another farm to expand our business. Larry retired from Scotian Gold in 2015 and I retired in 2018 to work full time at home when we bought another farm property. Our son-in-law (Cassian Ferlatte) works with us full time and our son (Sam Lutz) is studying Agriculture science and business and works with us during summers. He will join us when he graduates in 2022. Larry is the fifth generation to farm here in Rockland. His grandmother’s grandfather bought it in 1862.
